Boston won the first ever World Series in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They dominated the 1910's winning 4 World Series the last in 1918 but It took The Red Sox 86 years to win The World Series again the second longest drought in History of Baseball.

The first franchise to use numbers on the back of their jerseys and the first one to retire it when they retired Lou Gehrig's #4 in 1939 after the Captain retired prematurely because of a disease they named after him.
